Psychotherapy and humor
One thing that I repeatedly realize in therapy sessions is that once therapist and client manage to connect via (most of the cases dark) humour, crisis can be defused much easier.
Humor so to speak takes the edge off the pain. Or in other words “If we can joke about it, we can also deal with it”.
An interesting AJP articel focuses on the same topic: https://psychotherapy.psychiatryonline.org/doi/10.1176/appi.psychotherapy.20180021
